Validation

Before testing, you will need to ensure that:

  • Firewall Port are opened
  • NAT is done correctly:
    • 1 Public IP for Connection Server
    • 1 Public IP for Security Server

HTML Client

First validation test will be done with Microsoft Edge

  • Open Edge and point to the external FQDN
  • Click on Go on to the webpage
  • Click on VMware Horizon HTML Access
  • Log with your domain credentials
  • Click on 1 published application to launch it
  • Click on Go on to the webpage
  • Validate that application opened successfully

VMware Horizon Client

  • Open Edge and point to the external FQDN
  • Click on Go on to the webpage
  • Click on Install VMware Horizon Client
  • Download
  • Install VMware Horizon Client for your Operating System
  • After successful installation, click on Finish
  • You will need to reboot your computer before using VMware Horizon Client
  • After reboot, to access VMware Horizon, you will need to use the installed client and not anymore the web portal
  • Click on VMware Horizon Client
  • Double-click on Add Server
  • Provide the FQDN of the Connection Server and click on Connect
  • If you still have the self-signed certificate you will have the above warning message, click on Continue
  • Provide your credentials and click on Login
  • Double-click on the icon to open the published application
  • Validate that the application opens successfully
  • You will have a message asking you if you want to provide access to removable storage and local files. Click on Allow or Deny
  • I clicked on Allow and try to open a file from my local computer. However I was surprised to not see my local drives. In fact I have access to a Z:\ drive which correspond to my local profile on my desktop
  • In fact this is managed within the VMware Horizon Client settings where you can add or remove drives.

I still have a lot to discover like:

  • Instant Clone
  • View Composer

I planned to create other post regarding those components

Stay tuned…
