Objective
It’s that time of the year again. Time to start planning for Q3 updates to iOS and Android operating systems.
This communication is designed to provide you with an update of our current schedule for supporting and deprecating various operating system versions.
Similar to previous years, XenMobile is targeting Day 1 platform support for both iOS 11 and Android O when they release this Fall. Platform supports means that XenMobile client and server components will be compatible with the operating system releases from Day 1. Nothing will break if your users upgrade to the latest version.
Instructions
How do I test and prepare for iOS 11 and Android O?
Android O will be supported with XenMobile client release 10.6.20. Early Access Release version for this release is scheduled for mid-August with general availability late August.
iOS 11 will be supported on the release after 10.6.20. Early Access Release for this release is scheduled for late August with general availability in mid-September coinciding with the release of iOS 11.
As the new operating system versions are supported by our testing and development teams it is necessary to deprecate testing and support for older versions that are approaching end of life.
XenMobile support updates include:
- Android 4.4 – With Android O Day 1 support, all XenMobile apps will stop supporting Android version 4.4.x. The minimum supported version will be Android 5. Updated XenMobile apps will still install on devices running Android 4.4 until the end of the year, however, compatibility will no longer be tested. Android 4.x will still be supported for MDM.
- iOS 9 – With iOS 11 Day 1 support, iOS 9 will be supported on the XenMobile apps for two additional public app store releases. Approximately 6 weeks. After the 6 week window, XenMobile apps will no longer be tested for compatibility with iOS 9. iOS 9 will still be supported for MDM.
- iOS 8 MDM – Coinciding with the iOS 11 Day 1 XenMobile Server release we will no longer continue to develop or test MDM functionality with devices running iOS 8.
- SSLv3 is not supported with Android O – Google will no longer support SSLv3 connections. This means that the XenMobile apps running on an Android O device will not be able to connect to any internal servers that are still using SSLv3 connections. If you still have servers leveraging SSLv3, it’s important to address this before Android O rollout and adoption to avoid connectivity failures with your end users.
- Secure Hub on iOS11 will no longer support SHA-1 certificates – With iOS11, Secure Hub will fail to establish a secure connection with servers that are signed with SHA-1 signatures and the app will quit after presenting this message to end users. It is important to plan for the following to resolve this:
- The XenMobile Autodiscovery Service (ADS) will be updated to a new instance with a new secure certificate. All users must be on Secure Hub version 10.6.10 or higher when they upgrade to iOS11 to avoid being presented a connection error when Secure Hub attempts to connect to the ADS service.
- Update your XenMobile server certificate to a secure certificate if the current certificate is signed with a weak signature. Follow the instructions HERE.
