XenMobile: Continuous Loop When the Apps are Updated Through Secure Hub

There is an issue with MDM app install command on iOS that causes the previous version of XenMobile apps (Secure Mail, Secure Web and so on) to be installed when upgrading apps on iOS.

This is intermittent and does not happen to all users, but seems to have consistently occurred to a few users with the last 2 updates.

The users that experience this go into a continuous loop when the XenMobile apps are updated through Secure Hub because the previous version is installed from the store and the app (example – Secure Mail) keeps prompting the user for an update.

Environment
  • All iOS versions could be impacted.
  • Any MDX apps from the Public App Store where app updates can be enforced via policy.
  • Since Secure Hub is installed directly from the app store, this would not impact Secure Hub.
Solution

The only workaround is to go directly to the app store and install the the latest versions of the XenMobile apps manually. At that point, the upgrade works.

This is an Apple issue that was raised under the following Apple tracking ID  #30310459.

Note: A new policy should be added to ignore the “Upgrade Grace Period” policy.  Should be in the next release
